The inaugural scholarship was presented to LaShundria Harden Thursday during the Women’s Business Leadership Conference in Centennial Hall at the Carl R. Reng Student Union. Harden, of Memphis, Tenn., is a management major with an emphasis in human resource management. She is an officer in the Arkansas State Society for Human Resource Management (SHRUM) chapter and was recently selected by Optus to participate in a high impact presentation training by Dale Carnegie.
"This very generous and permanently endowed scholarship is a wonderful tribute to Mrs. McDaniel, who was a successful small business owner and pioneer in our community,” said Dr. Shane Hunt, dean of the College of Business. “This scholarship will help generations of female A-State business students achieve their educational and professional goals. We are extremely thankful to Mrs. McDaniel and her family for their support."
McDaniel’s sons, Danny and Bobby, began the endowment program to honor their mother who is among the first women to be involved in Jonesboro’s business community. Arkansas State and the McDaniel family wish to pay tribute to Mrs. McDaniel for a lifetime of commitment as a mother, wife and business owner who has worked tirelessly to help others and improve the lives of people throughout her community.
The announcement of Harden as the scholarship recipient kicked off the Women's Business Leadership Conference, a forum for leadership and professional development created to inspire and activate women in the business community. This one-day conference featured keynote addresses by women leaders, workshops designed to hone skills in key areas, and interactive discussions to engage students and professionals on important issues.
