KASU To Host One-Day Fund Drive on Friday, Aug. 1
JONESBORO – KASU 91.9 FM, the public media service of Arkansas State University, is holding a one-day fund drive on Friday, Aug. 1, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drive aims to offset recent funding challenges, including a shortfall during the spring membership drive and changes to federal support for public media.
The One-Day Fund Drive goal is $10,000. One may donate beginning that day by calling 870-972-2200. Donations can be made online anytime at KASU.org/give or by downloading the KASU mobile app. KASU listeners become members by making financial contributions to the non-commercial educational station.
KASU recently celebrated its 68th anniversary this year, having signed on the air May 17, 1957, and is the oldest public radio station in Arkansas.
According to Mark Smith, KASU station manager, “There has been a discontinuation of the Community Service Grant that KASU has traditionally received from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This grant has historically supported our programming and helped cover operating costs for the station. Moving forward, listener support is more essential than ever to sustain the service KASU provides to our community.”
"If you’ve never given to KASU before, make it a first on the first! Or get a head start on your support now at kasu.org/give,” Smith said.
“Now is the time to support public radio and KASU. KASU listeners, and underwriters, consistently support the station they love, helping us to sustain the programming they love. We appreciate their support, and it is more important than ever before in these uncertain times,” Smith continued. "Listener members and underwriting from business partners contribute to the success of the station, and we appreciate the support in keeping KASU strong now and in the future.”
KASU is Arkansas’ oldest non-commercial public radio station. The station has been an NPR member station since 1971. In addition to locally produced news and music programs, KASU pays to receive programming from NPR, American Public Media, and other sources.
KASU accepts membership contributions at any time. Listeners may call 870-972-2200 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. More information, including ways to donate, can be found at kasu.org or their Facebook page.
