Lakeport Legacies To Feature Discussion of Historic Properties, Tourism In Southeast Arkansas
JONESBORO — Dr. John Kyle Day, an associate professor of history in the school of social and behavioral sciences at the University of Arkansas-Monticello, is the featured speaker for the Lakeport Legacies, a monthly history talk series, Thursday, Sept. 25, at Lakeport Plantation, 61 Hwy. 142, Lake Village. His talk is “UAM’s Historic Properties and Tourism in Southeast Arkansas.”
The program begins at 6 p.m. and is free to the public. However, guests are asked to RSVP by calling (870) 265-6031. Refreshments are served at 5:30 p.m.
Dr. Day will discuss UAM’s plans to save, preserve, and interpret important historic sites for students and the public.
Discussion will take place regarding plans to create a Southeast Arkansas Heritage Trail anchored by three historic properties: World War II Italian prisoner of war camp near Monticello in Drew County, the law office of Arkansas Governor Xenophon Overton Pindall in Arkansas City in Desha County, and the circa 1846 Taylor House at the Hollywood Plantation near Winchester in Drew County.
Lakeport Legacies is a monthly history talk held on one of the last Thursdays in the dining room at the Lakeport Plantation. Each month a topic from the Delta region is featured. The event is free and open to the public.

The Lakeport Plantation home, built circa 1859, is the only remaining antebellum Arkansas plantation home along the Mississippi River.
