Listeners Can Subscribe to A-State Connections-Create@State Podcasts to Hear Faculty, Student Research Efforts
JONESBORO – A-State Connections, an hour-long radio show produced by KASU-FM and created to highlight projects and accomplishments by faculty, staff and students at Arkansas State University and member schools of the ASU System, has taken the show one step further.
The show and Create@State formed a partnership in September that began a podcast that focuses on work by research faculty and how they are collaborating with students on hands-on research and creativity projects. Each podcast is called “A-State Connections and Create@State: Making Connections That Count,” and can be heard in the second segment of the show.
Listeners can now subscribe to the segments through kasu.org, find the drop-down link “Shows” on the site menu and click on the Create@State podcast page. Subscribers can connect through the iTunes store, or Google Play. A-State Connections airs from 11 a.m.-noon each Saturday on 91.9 FM and also streams live on kasu.org. It can also be found on the A-State app.
The podcast creates a new communication tool that allows faculty and students to connect with the public, as well as bring the community and corporate partners to campus to participate in the classroom and the interview segments.
“When A-State Connections first launched, conversations between Emily Devereux (executive director of research) and I started about how we could focus on how researchers and students are working together,” said Johnathan Reaves, KASU news director and show host. “The idea for this was centered around the efforts of Create@State. Researchers, students and leaders learn from each other.”
“As Create@State has grown to be the catalyst for growth in research and creative works on campus, it has successfully integrated partnerships through the Advancement Office by integrating alumni, industries and corporate partners by bringing them to campus to engage with our faculty and students,” added Devereux.
“Growing new pathways to create and connect meaningful research and creative opportunities for our faculty, students and communities is unique for A-State and the direction we want to keep moving for regional engagement and innovative opportunities. We are grateful for this partnership with Johnathan and KASU, as the radio and podcast segments have provided a new level of engagement and communicative opportunities that otherwise would not have been made possible.”

- Dec. 22 — Double Feature: (1) Philip Poston and Jessica Blackburn, Hytrol Conveyors’ involvement with Create@Astate. (2) Dr. Xiuzhen Huang as the 2019 Arkansas Research Alliance Fellow.
- Dec. 29 — Dr. Irina Khramtsova and students, mindfulness and presenting at a conference in Hawaii in January.
- Jan. 5 — Dr. Dixie Keys and students, presentation about a digital text set curriculum.
- Jan. 12 — Dr. Tom Risch and Emily Devereux on what the R2 Carnegie Classification Status means for research and creativity at A-State.
- Jan. 19 - Dr. Jody Long and student Christopher Russell, social work research that could help workers have a better understanding of transgender patients.
- Jan. 26 — Dr. Jennifer Bouldin and students, area water research.
- Feb. 2 — Emily Devereux and Dr. Patrick DeRoushers on the STEM Posters at the Capitol.
- Feb. 9 - Dr. Lillie Fears and student Asem Alomari, focus group discussion on tobacco/vaping.
- Feb. 16 — Dr. Ed Salo and students, research on African-American and Jewish cemeteries in Helena-West Helena and work to get them on National Register for Historic Places.

Create@State is a year-long program that provides A-State students with opportunities to become engaged in faculty mentored research and creativity with industry, community and alumni for student learning and community building. This program culminates each year with the Create @ State Symposium to showcase the co-curricular research, scholarly and creative works with judges from industry, stakeholders, alumni, community leaders and administration.
