Marketing & Communications Staff Wins Gold, Silver at CASE
JONESBORO -- Arkansas State University’s Office of Marketing and Communications won six awards, three Gold and three Silver, in the annual competition conducted by Southwest District IV of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
CASE is an international association of professionals who work for the advancement of educational institutions. A-State’s prize-winning entries competed with those of CASE member universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, the five states comprising District IV. The conference and awards presentation was in Houston this year.
The Publications and Creative Services (PCS) team, which includes director Mark Reeves, assistant director Heath Kelly, and graphic designers Mary Williams, Robby Myers and Muriel Schrepfer, and the Creative Media team, which includes director Todd Clark and videographer Hunter West, worked on the winning projects.
“I am very proud of the work done by our creative and digital teams here at Arkansas State,” stated Dr. Bill Smith, executive director of Marketing and Communications. “Recognition from our peers is great, but we are most excited about the daily comments we receive from our students, faculty and alumni about the materials produced by our office. They tell us how much these publications and websites make them proud to be members of the A-State family and keep them connected. We take a lot of Pack Pride in representing them through our publications, videos, media releases and social media.”
Arkansas State won the first-place Gold Award in the design category “annual or president’s report” for “Measure,” the university’s annual research magazine. The Office of Research and Technology Transfer produces the magazine content, which carried a biotechnology theme, “Elements: Preserving Balance,” in the winning issue.
The PCS staff also picked up a second-place Silver Award for the magazine in the design category, “general institutional literature.”
CASE presented a second Gold Award to A-State for its recruitment viewbook, “Be Known,” in the design category of “admissions, recruitment and promotional literature.” The viewbook is a printed brochure utilized by the Office of Recruitment, which provides the content, for attracting prospective college-bound students who are in the decision-making process.
“Be Known” also won a Silver Award in the design category “viewbooks.”
A-State’s Facebook Page earned a Gold Award in the social media category, “networking page.” In addition to recognition for its quality of content and interactive design, the A-State page “likes” increased more than threefold among students, both current and prospective, parents, alumni and friends between inception of the new page in July and the end of the year.
A third Silver Award went to Marketing and Communications for its entry, “Honors College Recruitment: Live. Learn. Belong” in the social media category “integration.” This entry included a printed brochure that included quick response (QR) code links to appealing social media-themed video spots produced by Creative Media, a unit within Marketing and Communications. Jamie Beck, assistant director in Honors, contributed conceptual ideas and initial design and collaborated on this entry with Digital Creative Services.
The winning entries, along with all publications and products from A-State’s Office of Marketing and Communications, are developed in support of the university’s mission to “educate leaders, enhance intellectual growth and enrich lives.”
