Marketing & Communications Staff Wins Gold, Silver, Bronze at CASE
JONESBORO -- Arkansas State University’s Office of Marketing and Communications won 10 awards, including three Gold and two Silver, in the annual competition conducted by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), District IV.
The winning projects were produced by two teams of staff members within Marketing and Communications. The Publications and Creative Services (PCS) team includes director Mark Reeves, assistant director Heath Kelly, and graphic designers Mary Williams, Robby Myers and Muriel Schrepfer. The Digital Creative Media team includes director Todd Clark, videographer Tyler Silvey and photographer Andrew Ferguson.
“For our staff to receive these awards from their peers is special and something that we appreciate," stated Dr. Bill Smith, executive director of Marketing and Communications. “Above all, I am proud of the work of our team does every day to communicate to our student and alumni, our faculty and staff, and to our community.”
CASE is an international association of professionals who work for the advancement of educational institutions. A-State’s prize-winning entries competed with those of CASE member universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, the five states comprising District IV. The conference and awards presentation were in Austin, Texas.
Gold Awards
Arkansas State won the first-place Gold Award in the design category “institution-wide branding program” for A-State's student recruitment program, "Be Known." "Be Known" was the central theme for coordinated recruitment materials and messaging aimed at college-bound high school students and their families.
The designers earned another Gold Award for their work on the marketing publication for the Beck PRIDE Center for America's Wounded Veterans. This was in the entry category "institutional relations programs, project or special event." Details are online.
The third Gold Award was for the entry, "Live. Learn. Belong. The Honors College," in the social media category of "integration."
Silver Awards
Silver awards were presented to A-State in the design category of "general institutional literature," and "digital or computer-enhanced image."
The first was awarded for the "E3 – Exponential Impact" edition of "Measure," the university’s annual research magazine. The Office of Research and Technology Transfer produces the magazine content.
The second Silver Award was for a composite image of photographs which was reproduced on the promotional poster for A-State Red Wolves volleyball.
Bronze Awards
A-State received a Bronze Award, given in the category of "project or special event," for the book, "Recollections by J.R. Cash: Childhood Memories of Johnny Cash." This is a creatively designed and printed reproduction of a book of handwritten personal notes the late singer wrote in the later part of his life to his daughter, Tara. Copies are now available for sale at the Historic Dyess Colony Administration Building gift shop near Cash's restored boyhood home in Dyess, Arkansas.
The E3 issue of "Measure" also won a Bronze Award in the design category, "annual or president's report."
A third Bronze went to A-State for its primary recruitment publication, “Be Known,” in the design category of “viewbooks.” The viewbook is a brochure utilized by the Office of Recruitment, which provides the publication content, for attracting prospective college-bound students to Arkansas State.
Honorable Mentions
Honorable mentions were awarded in the video category for a television spot, "This is A-State," and in the category of publication design series for a series of pieces in the "Be Known" recruitment campaign series.
The winning entries, along with all publications and products of A-State’s Office of Marketing and Communications, are developed in support of the university’s mission to “educate leaders, enhance intellectual growth and enrich lives.”
