Media & Communication, and University College, Honor Graduating Students
JONESBORO – Nine seniors in the College of Media and Communication and two seniors in University College at Arkansas State University were honored during campus Convocation of Scholars ceremonies as their most outstanding graduating students.
Japhanie Gray of Blytheville, a multimedia journalism major with a 4.0 grade point average, won the Chancellor’s Scholar award in the College of Media and Communication, according to Dr. Brad Rawlins, dean. The Chancellor’s Scholar is the graduating student in each college who has the highest grade point average.
The department awards, based on scholarship, leadership, and service, were presented to the top student in each degree program. Those graduating in December of 2014 as well as May and August of this year were eligible.
The award recipients were Cameron Waterworth of Jonesboro, communication studies; Rebecca Galloway of Stuttgart and Lisha Earhart of Bryant, strategic communications; Japhanie Gray, multimedia journalism, and Quinton Marks of Prescott, creative media production.
Graduate student awards were presented to Tolulope Lawal of Nigeria, research; Chloe Joslin of Memphis, service; and Josh Bramlett of Conway, thesis.
Two students, Japhanie Gray and Michael Strack of Maumelle, were named recipients of the Robert L. Hoskins Award, which is named in memory of the founding dean of the college. The award is based primarily on professional achievements beyond the classroom.
In University College, Elizabeth McGuire of Marked Tree received the Chancellor’s Scholar award for having the highest GPA, according to Dr. Jill Simons, dean.
William Nichols of Jonesboro received the departmental award in the Bachelor of Science degree program in integrative studies.
