Mid-South Sales Announces Scholarship Endowment
JONESBORO – Mid-South Sales of Jonesboro is endowing a scholarship to support promising students in agriculture and business at Arkansas State University.
The scholarship, to be known as the Mid-South Sales Endowed Scholarship, will be awarded annually. Murray Benton Jr., assistant vice president of Mid-South Sales, announced the plan to create the endowment fund.
Criteria for the Mid-South Sales Scholarship include being a fulltime student in good standing with a grade point average of 3.0 or better and a demonstrated need for financial assistance.
"Arkansas State University is grateful to Mid-South Sales and the Benton family for their generosity in assisting students in agriculture and business who can use some help with the cost of a college education," said Dr. Jason Penry, vice chancellor for university advancement.
Earnings from the endowment fund of $25,000 will provide the annual award. Student recipients of the scholarship will alternate each year between the College of Agriculture and Technology and the College of Business.
Mid-South Sales began as a small business in 1947, supplying farmers with fuel, tires, batteries, and other automotive and tractor accessories from a bulk plant in Helena. What began as a regional wholesale oil and fuel distributor has grown into one of the largest privately-owned oil companies in Arkansas.
With headquarters in Jonesboro and seven other locations across the state, MSS now sells gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, as well as lubricants including hydraulic fluids, motor oils, gear lubricants, and greases. The company serves customers across a wide variety of industries.
