Multicultural Center to Celebrate 10-Year Anniversary
JONESBORO – The Multicultural Center at Arkansas State University will celebrate its first 10 years with an online celebration at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
Established in July 2010, the center's role in campus life has grown steadily. Previous directors and friends of the center will be present to celebrate the milestone and reflect on the center’s progress and impact at A‑State. Everyone is welcome to participate virtually through Zoom.
"The Multicultural Center has been an integral part of the campus experience for so many students. From leadership opportunities, to award recognitions, to learning about self and others from diversity programs, the center leaves students equipped for success in college and beyond," said Dr. Evette Allen Moore, executive director of Inclusive Excellence in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement.
One of the students who participates in Multicultural Center activities described the center's value on a personal level.
"The Multicultural Center was a very vital part of my transition to college from high school. Before, I was a very reserved person, but the Multicultural Center has presented me with various opportunities to meet others and get involved on campus. One can literally walk into the Multicultural Center as a stranger, and leave as a member of a huge family."
Another student added, "The Multicultural Center helped me learn more about other people and their cultures while making connections with the different organizations on campus.”
Moore added, "It has been great to watch the center grow in space, staff, and programs over the years and I am excited about the bright future. This celebration is a reminder of both great accomplishments and the need for spaces that celebrate underrepresented populations."
Interested individuals should RSVP online to receive the event access details.
