Music Faculty to Perform Tuesday in Recital Series
JONESBORO – The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present the first concert in the 2017-2018 Faculty Recital Series on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
The concert, to be held in Fowler Center, Riceland Hall, is free and open to the public.
Many music faculty members will be performing, including Bruce Faske and Brian Henkelmann, who will open the program with “Hosannah for Trombone and Organ” by Franz Liszt.
Dale Clark, Chi Young Song, Priscilla Tsai, Josquin Larson, and Daniel Strawser will present Gordon Jacob’s “Suite for Bassoon and String Quartet.”
A piece written by Henkelmann, “Tis I Go Fiddling, Fiddling,” will be performed by Matthew Carey, Chi Young and the composer himself.
“Three Madrigals for Violin & Viola” by Bohuslav Martinů will be played by Chi Young Song and Josquin Larsen.
“Sonata Appassionata” by Sigfrid Karg-Elert will be performed by Tara Schwab. She will then be joined by Michael Kudrika to play “Toward the Sea” by Toru Takemitsu.
“Romanza from Concerto for Tuba” by Ralph Vaughan Williams will be performed by Ed Owen and Emily Jenkins.
The Bradbury Art Museum will be open to the public during intermission. The current exhibition is the 2017 Faculty Biennial, featuring works of the late Roger Carlisle, Shelley Gipson, Claudia Salamanca and Cara Sullivan and numerous other professors.
