Music Scholar Greg Reish is next in Lecture-Concert Series
JONESBORO – Greg Reish, old-time and bluegrass music scholar, will make the next presentation in Arkansas State University's Lecture-Concert Series, Wednesday, Oct. 12.
He will begin at 12 noon, speaking at the west façade of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
Students, faculty, staff and the community are welcome to attend; admission is free.
In addition to the Lecture-Concert Series, the College of Liberal Arts, Department of Music, Diversity Program and A-State Guitar Guild are sponsors.
Reish is director of the Center for Popular Music and professor of music history at Middle Tennessee State University. A scholar of old-time and bluegrass specializing in early vernacular guitar styles, he also is a singer and multi-instrumentalist.
He has performed across much of the United States, and in 2007 made a six-city solo tour of Japan. In October 2015 he released an album titled “Speed of the Plow,” an instrumental collection of old-time fiddle and guitar duets with his musical partner Matt Brown.
Earlier this year Reish launched his own radio show, "Lost Sounds," on WMOT 89.5 FM. He earned a Bachelor of Music in jazz guitar from the University of Miami, followed by a doctoral degree in musicology from the University of Georgia.
The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus. Many of the Lecture-Concert Series events include additional campus activities.
