08/09/2016

JONESBORO – Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity recognized Arkansas State University's Alexis Hurdle as Fraternity Greek Adviser of the Year during the group's international General Assembly Saturday in Miami.

Hurdle was recognized for exceptional performance of her duties as assistant dean for Greek life at A‑State.  The award is presented annually to an adviser who has "rendered exemplary service to the Greek system on a particular campus or on a number of campuses," according to the fraternity.

"I feel very thankful and humbled to have received this award," Hurdle said. "It’s an honor to work on a campus that has a Lambda Chi Alpha chapter because I know this international organization as one that is values-driven and involved on many levels within the field of fraternity and sorority life.

"Arkansas State provides incredible support to our fraternity and sorority community. I am grateful to be surrounded by such a talented group of colleagues and students at Arkansas State; they make my job fulfilling and fun," she added.

Hurdle was nominated by Dylan Bateman, representing the Iota-Theta chapter of Lambda Chi at Arkansas State.

"Her positive influence on both our individual members and our chapter as a whole is evidenced by the continued success and improvement of our chapter," Bateman's letter stated, noting the crucial assistance she gave the chapter as they started a new philanthropy event.

"Alexis was a critical part in the success of our first Color Run for the Kids, which raised over $11,000 for the kids at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock," he continued.

Hurdle has been a member of the Division of Student Affairs staff since 2011.

"Alexis, an outstanding role model for the Greek community, has quickly made a positive impact on the Greek system at A-State," commented Dr. Rick Stripling, vice chancellor for Student Affairs.  "Under her leadership and guidance, the Greek program has flourished with membership numbers increasing by more than 40 percent.  The four-year retention rate for our Greek students is 91 percent. Alexis is very deserving of this honor and we are proud to have her as part of the Student Affairs team."

Martha Spack, director of student development and leadership, added "The foundations of Greek Life consist of leadership, fellowship and service.  Alexis models these values as she cultivates relationships with students and alumni, supports the growth of the Greek system and leads with a positive attitude.  She is helpful, innovative and resourceful.  The Greek system and Leadership Center are fortunate to have Alexis as a team member and champion of student development."
