'NurtureNature,' Ceramic Sculpture, to Open at Bradbury
JONESBORO – An exhibition of sculpture by Bradley Sabin opens at Bradbury Art Museum on Thursday, Jan. 26. The exhibition features Sabin's ceramic floral installations and freestanding sculpture.
"NurtureNature" opens during a 5-6:30 p.m. public reception along with the 2017 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition and "Local Color." Bradbury Art Museum is in Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr., at Arkansas State University. The exhibitions continue through Feb. 26.
Sabin has been creating his impeccably crafted and beautiful work for years. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1993 he earned his Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from Louisiana State University. Since that time he has lived and worked in his adopted home of New Orleans.
In his artist’s statement Sabin says, “The inspiration for my ceramic sculpture is the natural world around me. I moved to Louisiana from Michigan and since that time have used my observations and love of gardening as my library of forms. I equate the care and time needed to have a healthy garden to human relationships that also require nurturing and protecting to flourish.”
Referring to work in the exhibition he states, “In my recent installations of flowers and sculptural cage forms I think of the work as surrounding and protecting the viewer like arms wrapped around you. The ultimate goal for me would be to have my work create the same sense of awe and wonder that is achieved when seeing something amazing in our natural world.”
Les Christensen, director of BAM said, “Over the past few decades I have followed Bradley’s work. His devotion to craft and dedication to his art career is very impressive. As the assistant director of the prestigious Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans, his studio time is limited to say the least but he still manages to produce a body of stunning work for exhibitions and commissions across the country.”
BAM hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and by appointment. The exhibition and the reception are admission-free and open to the public. For additional information please contact the museum at (870) 972-2567.
