Pamela Bowie Selected to Direct A-State Admissions

09/04/2019

JONESBORO – Pamela Bowie has joined Arkansas State University as the senior director of admissions in the Division of Enrollment Management, Vice Chancellor Dr. Bryan Terry announced this week.

Heading the day-to-day operations of A-State’s outreach to potential students, Bowie returns to her alma mater after eight years working with higher education institutions in the state of Arkansas.

“I cannot be more excited that we have Pamela on board to ramp up the process of admitting the upcoming Class of 2024,” Terry said.  “She brings great administrative experience in the areas of admissions operations and recruitment, but she also has a great passion for Arkansas State and the Jonesboro area.”

Earning her master’s degree at A-State in 2006, Bowie worked for the university for three years as an admissions counselor.

“I’m honored to be selected by Dr. Terry for this important role in his Enrollment Management team,” Bowie said.  “The holistic vision he has for guiding students from high school, through their first day at A-State and then into becoming valuable members of society as university graduates is near to my heart.”

For the past academic year, Bowie was the director of admissions for the University of Arkansas-Pulaski Tech in North Little Rock.  During her year at UA-Pulaski Tech, she worked to dramatically reduce processing time on applications while increasing overall applications and admitted students by double-digit percentages.

In her role with UA-Pulaski Tech, she also doubled attendance for the state’s largest two-year college’s Preview Day and implemented new strategic marketing and communications plans for the admissions office.

She will oversee a similar role for Arkansas State, taking the lead in management of the new SLATE admissions process and the Common Application.

Prior to Pulaski, Bowie spent seven years at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as associate director of admissions.  During her time with UA Little Rock, she developed customer service training for the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, created admissions materials and visitors guides, and directly managed the Dallas-Fort Worth market for UA Little Rock which led to increased recruitment.

“Our family certainly enjoyed our time in central Arkansas, but we are excited about the prospect of moving into a university town like Jonesboro,” Bowie said.
