Play 'The Revolutionists' Final Production of the Season at A-State Fowler Center

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Department of Theatre will present its final production of the 2023-2024 season with the play “The Revolutionists” by Lauren Gunderson.

Performances will be held at Fowler Center’s Drama Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, Sunday, April 14, at 2:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 21, at 2:30 p.m.

According to A-State Theatre’s announcement, the production of “The Revolutionists” is set in Paris in 1793. The play focuses on four women from diverse backgrounds which includes Olympe de Gouges, a playwright and feminist; Marianne Angelle, a Caribbean spy; Charlotte Corday, a radical Girondin; and Marie Antoinette, former queen of France. The play explores themes of feminism, activism and the cost of revolution.

The cast includes theatre major Skyla Conger of Haskell in the role of Olympe de Gouges; theatre major Kylah Hood of Jonesboro as Marianne Angelle; theatre major Emily Provence of Searcy as Charlotte Corday; and theatre major Abby Orr of Jonesboro as Marie Antoinette.

DayDay Robinson, assistant professor of theatre, will be directing. Jeff McLaughlin, associate professor of theatre is scenic designer. Claire Abernathy, associate professor of theatre is costume designer. Lighting and sound designer will be Caisa Sanburg, associate professor of theatre.

Theatre major Alex Jones of Russellville is assistant lighting designer. Judith Bossi, a Batesville theatre major, is assistant costume designer. Theatre major Michael Joseph of Sikeston, Mo., is assistant sound designer. Serving as assistant director is Julie Barnett, a theatre major from Crossett. Theatre major Kaito Ito of Tokyo, Japan is stage manager. Serving as assistant stage manager, Katie Cooper is a theatre major of Jonesboro. Selena Hinds, a theatre major of Jonesboro, will serve as dramaturg.

The production team includes theatre major Baylor McElhaney of Bauxite as properties master; Gavin Wilson, a theatre major from Berryville, will be light board operator; and sound board operator is Olin Lowery, a theatre major of Jonesboro. Theatre majors Destiny Johnson of Cabot, Angeline Able of Austin, and Cristal Martinez of Batesville will work as wardrobe crew. Serving as house manager is theatre major Libby Wills of Russellville. Theatre major Christian Armstrong of Russellville will work as backstage crew.

Attendees are advised the show contains mature language and satirical humor.

Tickets may be purchased at the A-State Box Office at First National Bank Arena from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. One may also purchase tickets online at AState.edu/tickets. Prices are $10-$15.

A-State students can get a free ticket at the box office with their student ID. Seating is limited and it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance.
