10/06/2016

JONESBORO – The 2016-17 Lecture-Concert Series at Arkansas State University will continue Thursday, Oct. 13, with the annual Greenfield Lecture, to be given this year by Susan Bordo, professor of gender and women’s studies at the University of Kentucky.

This installment of the Lecture-Concert Series is funded by Drs. Rosalee and Raymond Weiss of Teaneck, N.J., through an endowment in memory of her mother, Corinne Sternheimer Greenfield.

The title of her presentation is “Hillary, Feminism, and Me: Why ‘Baby-Boomers’ and ‘Millennials’ Need to Start Talking to Each Other.”

Bordo will present the lecture at 7 p.m. in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, auditorium 1028.  Students, faculty, staff and the community are welcome to attend; admission is free. The lecture also serves as the keynote address for the Southern Feminisms Conference.

This event is co-sponsored by the Lecture-Concert Series, the College of Liberal Arts, Women and Gender Studies Program and Diversity Program.

Bordo holds the Otis A. Singletary Chair in the Humanities at UK.  Her books and articles on women, men, body image, cultural history and contemporary media are read throughout the world.

Her works include "Unbearable Weight," a best seller that the New York Times described as a “feminist classic” and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; "The Male Body: A New Look at Men in Public and in Private," one of the first in the then-emerging field of masculinity studies; and her most recent book, "The Creation of Anne Boleyn: A New Look at England’s Most Notorious Queen."

She is currently working on a book about Hillary Clinton and frequently blogs on Huffington Post and other Internet sites.

The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus.  Many of the Lecture-Concert Series events include additional campus activities, such as the masterclass.
