Publications and Creative Services Staff Wins Awards for Designs that Support University Marketing Initiatives
JONESBORO -- Arkansas State University’s Office of Publications and Creative Services, a division of Marketing and Communications, recently won seven awards from the Southwest District IV Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), during the organization’s annual conference in Fort Worth.
CASE is an international association of professionals who advance educational institutions. ASU’s prize-winning entries competed with those of CASE member universities in Southwest District IV, which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
The Publications and Creative Services team, which includes director Mark Reeves, assistant director Heath Kelly, and graphic designers Mary Williams, Michael Johnson and Robbie Myers, worked on the projects that won awards.
“It is no surprise to me that this team continues to receive accolades for their work,” stated Christy Valentine, executive director of University Marketing and Communications. “They are not only talented and extremely creative, they are passionate about Arkansas State. That passion shines through in everything they do.”
Arkansas State won the first-place Gold Award in the category of “Institution-wide Branding Program” for the entry titled, “The Element of Experience: Recruitment Campaign, College of Sciences and Mathematics.” The “Element of Experience” campaign also won a third-place Bronze Award in the category, “Design – Admissions, Recruitment, and Promotional Literature.” This campaign utilized a theme from the periodic table of elements in a series of posters, brochures, pamphlets and other items to help boost student recruitment to the College of Sciences and Mathematics.
The A-State team also won a second Gold Award in the category of “Publication Design Series” for “Radioactive: Women in Science” promotional posters. The entry was designed to help attract teenage girls to the fields of science and mathematics by positively portraying female role models, some nationally known and some from the ASU faculty, in a series of posters reminiscent of classic and popular movie genres.
“Measure,” the research publication of Arkansas State University, won the second-place Silver Award in “Design -- Annual or President’s Report.” This issue of the annual magazine highlighted economic development projects at ASU, especially those based on faculty research.
The team’s new design of the university’s website, www.astate.edu, won a Bronze Award in the “Web – Homepage” category. The new page is set up to appeal both to prospective students and to stakeholders already involved with Arkansas State.
CASE awarded a third Bronze Award to Arkansas State in “Color Photography – Athletics” for its entry, “Football Player and Facility Series.”
The seventh award was an honorable mention for another athletics-related project, a bowl prospective status piece on ASU Red Wolves football in the category, “Brochures/Flyers/Booklets – Four or More Colors.”
