Recital & Reception to Honor Dan Ross on Retirement
JONESBORO – A recital and reception recognizing the retirement of Dr. Dan Ross, professor of music, will be hosted by the Department of Music at Arkansas State University Saturday, March 31, starting at 2 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.
Ross has been teaching oboe at A-State since 1972, and is retiring after 46 years of service. His long tenure and broad influence in the region, as well as the larger double-reed community around the world, will be honored with a performance of Handel’s "Music for the Royal Fireworks," performed by a double-reed orchestra comprised of Dr. Ross’ current and former students.
Speakers will include Dr. Marika Kyriakos, department chair; Dr. Carl Cates, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, Dr. Lynita Cooksey, provost, Dr. Richard Kilmer, professor of oboe at the Eastman School of Music, and Piotr Sulkowski, conductor of the Forum Sinfonia of Krakow, Poland.
A reception in the Grand Hall honoring Ross will follow the recital.
Ross was the university’s featured faculty researcher last November. An article and video are online.
