Retiring and Veteran Faculty are Recognized at Conference

JONESBORO – Nine faculty members who retired during the 2019-20 academic year were recognized for their longtime service and contributions to Arkansas State University, during the annual Faculty Conference Wednesday.

Each person retiring with 10 or more years of service also is awarded emeritus status.

Sandra Seay has the longest term of service, with 52 years, followed by Ken Hatch, with 37 years.  Both taught in the Department of Music.

Those recognized, academic title, and length of service at Arkansas State were: 

  • Dr. Brenda Anderson, associate professor of nursing, 13 years

  • Dr. Brady Banta, university archivist, 29 years

  • Dr. Winfred Bridges, instructor of philosophy, 30 years

  • Ken Hatch, associate professor of music, 37 years

  • Dr. Mike McDaniel, professor of communication disorders, 31 years

  • Dr. Paul Mixon, professor of engineering, 24 years

  • Dr. Greg Phillips, professor of plant biotechnology, 17 years

  • Sandra Seay, assistant professor of music, 53 years

  • Dr. Paige Wimberley, associate professor of nursing, 23 years

In addition, several individuals who have attained service milestones of 35, 30, 25, 20 and 15 years were recognized.  Those recognized and their academic areas were:

35 Years: Mark Draganjac, chemistry; Bert Greenwalt, agricultural economics; Gail Hudson, marketing; Ernesto Lombeida, Spanish; Joseph Sartorelli, philosophy; Melodie Philhours, marketing.

30 Years: Jerry Ball, English; Winfred Bridges, philosophy; Christopher Brown, economics; Lillie Fears, multimedia journalism; Edward Hammerand, computer science; Wayne Narey, English; William Paulsen, mathematics.

25 Years: William A. Burns, chemistry; Eric Cave, philosophy; John Seydel, computer & information technology; Tracy White, radiation therapy; Paige Wimberley, nursing; Les Wyatt, higher education and art.

20 Years: Jennifer Bouldin, environmental biology; Julie Huggins, biology; Ed Owen, music; John Robertson, accounting; C. William Roe, management; Bin Zhang, physics.

15 Years: Susan Anselm, teacher education; Valarie Hilson, physical education;  Argelia Lorence, metabolic engineering; Loretta McGregor, psychology; Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, metabolic engineering; Cindy Nichols, special education; Patricia Robertson, business law; April Sheppard, public service librarian; Stacey Sloas, physical therapy; Marcus Tribbett, English; LaToshia Woods, reading.
