Rockin' Luke Stroud to close KASU Blue Monday series

11/01/2012

JONESBORO, AR – Rockin’ Luke Stroud, an energetic rockabilly pianist and vocalist, will close out KASU Radio’s Blue Monday concert series in Paragould at the Red Goose Restaurant, Nov. 19 beginning at 7 p.m. His backup musicians will include members of the band Jeannie and the Guys.

Stroud performs songs from the heyday of 1950s rock and roll and country music, including numbers by Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Hank Williams, Sr. Other influences include Ricky Nelson, Billy Lee Riley and Chuck Berry.

Stroud has performed on the historic stage of the Louisiana Hayride at Shreveport, La., and has opened shows for Sonny Burgess, Mickey Gilley and Gary Puckett. He has been a sit-in guest performer at Blues City Café on Beale Street in Memphis.

KASU, Arkansas State University’s on-campus radio station, first presented Blue Monday in Jonesboro in 1998 and added a Paragould version in 2006. The Jonesboro Blue Monday series ended in 2008. Station manager Mike Doyle said that the Luke Stroud concert will be the last of the Blue Monday series in Paragould.

The station’s monthly bluegrass concert – Bluegrass Monday – will continue at the Collins Theatre in Paragould on the fourth Mondays. The monthly Bluesday Tuesday concerts at the Newport Country Club will also continue on the second Tuesdays.

Doyle said, “Blue Monday concerts the last year or so haven’t drawn the attendance we wished for, and we weren’t able to make this series continue. We thank our sponsors Bibb Chiropractic, MOR Media, and the audience members who have come out to Blue Monday.

“We appreciate the excellent food, service and atmosphere that have been provided to us by the Red Goose Restaurant staff. It has been a great venue for music and we will continue to hold some special events there. We hope people come out for this memorable closing concert by Rockin’ Luke Stroud.”
