Route 3 to Perform at KASU's Bluegrass Monday, April 28

04/17/2025

JONESBORO – Route 3 will perform bluegrass music at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 28, at the Collins Theatre, 120 West Emerson Street, in Paragould. This is part of the Bluegrass Monday concert series presented by KASU 91.9 FM.

Past recipients of the Arkansas Country Music Awards’ Bluegrass Artist of the Year honor, Route 3 is a Missouri-based quartet of veteran bluegrass musicians. Over the past six years, the group has produced three albums and has performed throughout the region.

The group records for the prestigious Pinecastle Records recording label, and the title tune from their most recent album, Just Believe, reached the #1 position on the Bluegrass Today music chart. The band has had multiple other songs reach the top 10 of that same chart and the Bluegrass Jamboree chart.

At age nine, mandolinist Jason Jordan met the originator of bluegrass music, Bill Monroe. Shortly thereafter, he formed his first band, the Parking Lot Pickers, which recorded its first album after winning a music contest. For 15 years, Jordan was a member of the band Brightwater Junction which won the 2012 National Single Mic Championship. As a songwriter, he has written for Route 3, and he has had a song recorded by Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver.

Doug Clifton began playing bass in his church when he was only 12 years old. As a teenager, he and a friend formed a band. As part of the band New Reflections, he won the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America’s (SPBGMA) International Bluegrass Band contest. In addition to playing regularly with multiple regional bands, he has also performed nationally with touring acts New Tradition, Bradley Walker, Kenny and Amanda Smith and the Issacs.

Janice Martin spent 18 years touring nationwide with her family band, the Bluegrass Martins.  That group won the SPBGMA International Bluegrass Band contest in 2007 and has performed multiple times in KASU’s Bluegrass Monday concert series. Martin has also been named Banjo Player of the Year nine times by SPBGMA-Midwest.

While in college, Greg Potter began honing his guitar skills, and he has now been playing with a variety of musicians and bands for over three decades. He is a former member of the groups Southwind, Arlington and the Missouri River Band. He is also a past nominee for SPBGMA’s Songwriter of the Year honor.

More details about Route 3, including videos of past performances, are available online.

The admission fee to the Bluegrass Monday concert is $10 per person, payable by cash at the door the night of the concert. Everyone aged 18 and under will be admitted free. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.kasu.org/tickets. All the ticket proceeds go to the musicians, compensating them for their performance.

Groups of eight or more may request reserved seating by contacting KASU’s Marty Scarbrough.  Otherwise, the theatre doors open at 6 p.m., and seating is first-come, first-served.

Acoustic musicians are invited to participate in a bluegrass music jam session at 5 p.m. in the Joe Wessell Building, adjacent to the Collins Theatre. A section of seats in the theatre will be reserved for jammers and guests so that they can play until the concert start time.

The Bluegrass Monday concert series is a non-profit presentation of KASU-FM, providing music fans with an affordable and outstanding evening of family-friendly entertainment. These concerts are held on the fourth Monday night of each month.

These concerts are presented with support from sponsors including the Paragould Advertising & Promotion Commission, Bibb Chiropractic Center, Gardner-Milner Law Firm, the Posey Peddler, Holiday Inn Express and Suites of Paragould and KASU.
