Rugby Falls to Life University in Home Rematch
JONESBORO – Ninth-ranked Arkansas State University fell to No. 2 Life University, 54-3, in a rematch Saturday afternoon at home in men’s college rugby.
“We showed some big improvements from our last match against these guys,” said head coach Blake White. “We did a great job creating line breaks but just could not capitalize. We’ve got to learn to stay focused and trust the process. We will improve from this going forward.”
After jumping on the Red Wolves early, Life kept A-State scoreless in the first half. Brock Roper was able to put Arkansas State’s only points on the scoreboard early in the second half with a penalty kick to make the score, 30-3.
White did single out several individuals who played well against the Running Eagles, including true freshman Isaiah Poku of Daytona Beach, Fla.
“Isaiah came off the bench and made an immediate impact,” added White. “He played big for us and his energy level was good for the team. He made some great tackles. Also, Jake Ray (Concord, Calif.) did some hard physical running.”
Arkansas State will play at Curt Huckaby Field the next two weekends, beginning March 17 in a return contest against Clemson, and the March 24 game against Davenport. Both matches will be broadcast on 94.1FM The Buzz. Start time for each game is 1 p.m. with broadcast time scheduled at 12:45 p.m.
