Russian Guitarist Anton Baranov to Give Concert, Master Classes
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University's Lecture-Concert Series will feature Russian guitarist Anton Baranov, Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Center, 2412 Quapaw Way.
“The Lecture-Concert Series and A-State Guitar Guild are very proud and privileged to once again bring an exceptional guitarist to campus for our community to enjoy," commented Dr. Tim Crist, professor of music and chair of the Lecture-Concert Committee.
"We are very fortunate to have Anton visit us for an extended period of time, during which he will teach lessons to A-State students and community members, hold a two-hour master class, and perform in concert. Anyone who has heard our Guitar Foundation of America winners in the past will know they shouldn't miss this one."
Prior to the concert, Baranov will conduct a master class and lessons for students and other individuals. Those interested should contact Crist for details.
Admission is free to all events in the Lecture-Concert Series. This presentation is supported in part with generous funding from the Department of Music, College of Fine Arts and the A-State Guitar Guild.
Known for his daring interpretation and innovative programming, Baranov is a prizewinner of more than 15 prestigious international guitar competitions, including the Koblenz Guitar Competition and Andrés Segovia Competition. At the height of his young career, he won both the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and the Francisco Tárrega Competition.
As part of his prize from winning the GFA competition, Baranov is on a 50-city concert tour throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and Brazil, and he has just recorded his first album on the Naxos label.
Born in the northwest region of Russia, he graduated from the St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in 2010 under grants from the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Performing Arts Foundation. He now teaches at his alma mater.
