Second Study Abroad Fair Set for Nov. 13

10/31/2018

JONESBORO – Students interested in opportunities to learn about and participate in academic study options around the world should attend the second annual Study Abroad Fair at Arkansas State University, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Centennial Hall in the Carl R. Reng Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road. The fair, presented by the Study Abroad Office, is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Study Abroad Fair is a chance for students to learn about the diverse Study Abroad program possibilities available to A-State students. There are chances to connect with those faculty members directing faculty-led programs during summer 2019, get information about exchange programs, and engage with approved external program providers and study abroad alumni.

“Once a year, the Study Abroad Office invites study abroad vendors from around the U.S., A-State faculty-leaders, and key campus partners to the Study Abroad Fair,” stated Jeanne d’Arc Gomis, director of Study Abroad and International Partnerships. “The Fair is a unique platform where we encourage A-State students to expand and enrich their educational experience abroad.”

Advisers will be present to discuss different programs and help explore those that meet academic and personal needs, answer financial questions and visit about the career benefits of studying abroad.

“Study Abroad is a life-changing experience,” added Gomis. “You can study abroad anywhere from two weeks to a year. Studying abroad does not have to be expensive, and most importantly, you do not have to go abroad just by yourself. There are opportunities to join a program that is led by an A-State faculty member with a group of A-State students. Scholarships and financial aid can be used to help offset the cost of study abroad. It just takes planning and planning early. Freshmen can study abroad as early as the summer of their first freshman year.

“I invite students to come to the fair on Nov. 13, and find out for themselves information about the 2018-19 programs and beyond.”

Visitors are also eligible for door prizes at the fair, and refreshments will be served.

Study Abroad is an academic experience outside the U.S. in which participants interact with people of different cultures and join in programs that are not available at A-State. Most Study Abroad programs allow students to continue working on current degree programs while overseas.

Study Abroad can last from a few weeks to an academic year and students work with academic and study abroad advisers to ensure credits transfer back to Arkansas State.
