Secondary Education Student receives Lillian Barton Scholarship at Arkansas State
JONESBORO – Hannah Beth Wright of Calico Rock, a senior, has been selected to receive the Lillian Barton Scholarship for the fall semester at Arkansas State University, announced Dr. Mary Jane Bradley, director of Professional Education Programs and scholarship committee chair.
Wright’s field of study is secondary biological sciences education. A Chancellor’s List student with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, Wright previously received the University Honors Scholarship and the Arkansas Governor’s Scholarship.
She plans to graduate in December after completing her teaching internship semester. Wright is the daughter of Dr. Donald and Judy Wright of Calico Rock.
The scholarship is named in memory of Lillian Barton, who rendered service to the teaching profession for more than 50 years. She was a public school teacher, school administrator, and teacher educator. The award is supported through an endowment established by donations from relatives of Miss Barton, friends and organizations. The interest from the endowment provides scholarships for deserving teacher education majors.
Each recipient of the scholarship, which is awarded twice per year, must be admitted into the Teacher Education Program; must be pursuing the BSE or MSE degree; and must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.00.
