JONESBORO, Ark. — Six student members of Arkansas State University’s award-winning trapshooting club were named to the 2013 Academics, Integrity and Marksmanship (AIM) All-Zone and All-Star teams.

Four students named to the AIM National All-Star Team include James Wray of Payneway (Senior Team), Rachel Gilliam of Jonesboro (Senior Team), Jordan Harper of Harrisburg (Junior Team) and Forrest Jones of Marion (Junior Team). Two named to the AIM All-Zone Team are team captain Seth Pinkston of Jonesboro (Senior Team) and Kaylee Corwin of Blytheville (Junior Team).

The All-Zone covers athletes representing Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana.

“Four ASU students being named National All-Stars and two named in the All-Zone team are outstanding feats for ASU’s Shooting Sports,” said Dr. Gauri Shankar Guha, the team’s faculty advisor and manager. “I request my ASU colleagues to recognize and congratulate these students whenever you see them. This crowns a year of extraordinary attainments that include over two dozen trophies and medals.

“I am proud and honored to be the faculty sponsor of this remarkable group of students who have performed equally well in academics and are excellent ambassadors of ASU. But we will not rest on our laurels and are aiming for bigger victories as we start our second year.”

ASU’s trapshooting program is new, having been in existence for less than a year. Dr. Guha, associate professor of Economics and Finance and associate director of ASU’s International Business Resource Center, serves as the program’s faculty advisor and manager and Pat Turnage is the team coach.

Two ASU squads participated in the Grand American World Championships in Sparta, Ill., last summer and finished third overall and won both team and individual awards.

In early November, ASU hosted the school’s first-ever trapshooting tournament and the Red Wolves came away with the team victory. Harper captured individual events including the individual overall title.
