Statement from Chief Randy Martin, University Police Department
News Conference Statement from Chief Randy Martin, University Police Department, regarding today's incident:
I want to thank the agencies that responded today: Jonesboro Police Department, Craighead County Sheriff's Department, the Arkansas State Police, FBI, Jonesboro Fire Department, several local ambulance services, several individual officers from surrounding communities who also responded and assisted us, and, of course, the officers of the University Police Department, who were the first responders to the incident. Several of them were on duty and the ones who weren't came in rapidly to help us.
We have a great working relationship with the Jonesboro Police Department, and we have asked them to assist us by leading the investigation of this incident. I am thankful for the rapid response of the University Police officers on duty to contain the suspect to his vehicle and keep him from entering any of the campus buildings.
I am also very thankful for the outside agencies' quick response to further contain the situation and to prevent any injuries or loss of life. As a precautionary measure, we will increase the number of patrol officers working on campus for the remainder of the week, but we have no indication of any further threats to the campus community.
