'Still On the Hill' to Bring Ozark Music to Fowler Center
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, will present Still on the Hill, the Ozark folk duo, as its next performance in the 2016-17 Riceland Distinguished Performance Series on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. The sponsor of the show is the Jonesboro Sun.
"Lovers of traditional music don’t want to miss Still on the Hill, a story-telling, songwriting duo performing traditional Ozark music on traditional Ozark instruments. For that matter, anyone who enjoys good, clean entertainment should be here," says Dr. Don Bowyer, Fowler Center director.
According to the group's website, Still on the Hill is a national and international touring group from Arkansas that has been described as “Ambassador of the Ozarks” for the work they do to preserve a rich culture that is quickly disappearing. Kelly and Donna Mulhollen of Still on the Hill are award-winning storytelling song writers. This duo embellishes their songs with a host of instruments from the hills they call home. Many of these were hand-made by old-timers and have amazing stories that go with them. With their music, they tell the story of Ed Stilley, "preacher man of Hogscald Holler," who found his purpose by making musical instruments for God and children from anything he could find. Some of Ed’s musical instruments will be played by Donna and Kelly, and some will be on display in the lobby.
All seating is reserved. Individual tickets for the Riceland Distinguished Performance Series are $30 and $20 for adults, and $23 and $15 for senior citizens and students, $24 and $16 for faculty and staff, and $10 and $6 for students with a current A-State ID. Group discounts are available for groups of 15 or more.
