Strategic Communication Students Sweep Prism Awards

JONESBORO — Students from Arkansas State University’s strategic communication program swept the Prism Awards at the recent annual Arkansas Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) award ceremony at the Historic Arkansas Museum in Little Rock. In all, there were 10 awarded and all 10 went to A-State entries.

The strategic communication program has three emphasis areas, including public relations, advertising and social media.

"It gives me such joy and pride to see our students recognized for their excellence by industry professionals," said PRSSA advisor and instructor in communication studies Lisa Moskal. "As each of their names was called to receive an award, it reminded me why I do what I do and reinforces the quality and standards of our program."

Award winners include:

  • Communication Campaigns — Prism Award: Cesar Marroquin, Ellen Hakenewerth, Jonathan Freeman, Logan Mustain, Philip Cureton, “We Are Downtowners” created for the Jonesboro Downtown Association.
  • Gold Award — Cara Jo Condray, Katherine Dickerson, Stephanie Dekok, Endsley Evans, Rebecca Galloway, Rossie Goolsby, Clayton Jackson, Yulia Rulimskaya, “Day’s Clothing Campaign” created for Day’s Clothing, Blytheville, Ark.
  • Research Project — Prism Award: Rossie Goolsby, “Update X Student Awareness Analysis.”
  • Special Events — Prism Award: Rebecca Galloway, “A-State United Way.”
  • Visual Communication, Public Relations Advertising — Prism Award: Cara Jo Condray, “Arkansas Gives ‘How to Give’.”
  • Visual Communication, Promotional Pieces — Prism Award: Cara Jo Condray, “Sidewalk Sale Email Blast.”
  • Gold Award — Yulia Rulimskaya: “A-State Multicultural Center.”
  • Interactive Audio-Visual and Social Media — Prism Award: Endsley Evans, Katey Carmichael, Emma Gookin, Melody Rainwater, Tilda Helgesson, “Fund-raising Express.”
  • Interactive Audio-Visual and Social Media (Facebook or other social media network site), Prism Award: Logan Mustain, “Official Student Section.” 
  • Gold Award — Cesar Marroquin: “Arkansas Gives Video.”

Denver Peacock, APR, PRSA Board of Directors member and student liaison and principal of The Peacock Group, LLC, presented the student awards and recognized Moskal’s efforts, thanking her for her service to PRSA/PRSSA, for working with students to ensure quality entries and for her commitment to training high caliber young professionals.

The Arkansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America recognizes exceptional public relations programs and the skills of the state’s practitioners, companies and organizations at its annual Prism Awards.  Student entries were made through the A-State Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), a chartered chapter of the national organization.  Participants are required to be a member.

 The competition is open to members of the professional organization as well as students.

Logan Mustain (left) receives a certificate for winning one of the student Prism awards from Denver Peacock, PRSA Board of directors member, student liaison and principal of The Peacock Group, LLC. Mustain is a past president of Arkansas State University’s Student Government Association. He graduated in May and is currently attending the University of Memphis Law School.
