Strickland Farm Auction Will Generate Scholarship Funds for Buffalo Island Grads Headed to A-State

11/25/2014

JONESBORO – Throughout their lives together, Russell and Melda Strickland of Black Oak, Arkansas, understood the worth of team camaraderie and a quality education, and how those attributes can contribute to personal success. This knowledge drove them to be strong supporters of Arkansas State University and the Buffalo Island Central (BIC) school district in Monette. When these accomplished Arkansans died – he in 2012 and she a year later – they bestowed a large piece of land to help the institutions they loved better serve students.

“The Stricklands wanted to provide significant academic scholarship opportunities to students from Buffalo Island Central,” said Joel King, principal broker for United Country – Dynasty Auction & Realty. “Their love for Arkansas State and BIC will benefit students for generations to come. United Country – Dynasty Auction & Realty is honored to be able to provide this service for the Arkansas State University Foundation, which will benefit Buffalo Island Central’s student body as a whole.”

The Strickland farm will be sold at live auction Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m.  The property will be offered in three separate tracts (approximately 35, 80 and 118.35 acres), any combination of parcels or as a whole.  The land, about four miles from Lake City and six miles from Monette, consists of roughly 233.35 acres of prime, row-crop farmland in Northeast Arkansas; it is 98.5 percent cultivatable, precision-leveled and irrigated. Improvements include two wells, irrigation pipes, a 50x100 farm shop and grain bins with dryers.

“Russell and Melda knew the value of a quality education,” said Philip Jackson, Arkansas State University Real Estate Foundation secretary. “By including A-State in their final plans, they left a wonderful legacy ensuring students at BIC will have the opportunity to reap the benefits of a university education.”
