Students Receive Addictions Studies Scholarships
JONESBORO — Two graduate students from Arkansas State University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions have received scholarships while completing the addictions studies certificate and obtaining a master’s degree in social work (MSW).
Randall Murray of Paragould earned the Ryan Family Scholarship for Addiction Studies. Murray is a veteran and a graduate intern completing his internship at Mission Outreach in Paragould where he assists individuals dealing with substance abuse and other issues. He also helps veterans obtain resources at the Beck PRIDE Center for America’s Wounded Veterans on the A-State campus.
Stephen (Steve) Ryan helped establish a Homeless Shelter in Harrisburg during his tenure as county judge of Poinsett County from 1979-94. He wanted to offer support and assistance to individuals faced with adversity and similar challenges.
Tisha Maxwell, also of Paragould, was awarded the Huddleston Social Work Scholarship. Maxwell is completing her internship at Mid-South Health Systems, where she assists individuals with substance abuse and mental health disorders. She has a desire to work with adolescents who have substance abuse and/or mental health disorders.
Bill Huddleston of Batesville dedicated his career to serving individuals with mental illness and addiction disorders. He was a developer and administrator of a wide array of community services in rural Arkansas for many years, believing everyone needed and deserved access to health and social services. This scholarship is awarded in recognition of his contributions.
