Students to Present Research Posters at State Capitol
JONESBORO – Eleven students from Arkansas State University have been selected to present research posters at the 2015 "STEM Posters at the Capitol" event, Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Students from 15 institutions throughout the state will be participating, according to Rebekah L. Craig, director of research development and coordinator of A-State's participation. The purpose is to promote understanding and participation in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Posters will be set up in the rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Legislators, constitutional officers and other state officials have been invited, along with several high schools and the general public. Visitors will have an opportunity to interact with the college and university poster presenters.
Arkansas State students who will present posters, along with their hometown, academic department and poster title, are:
- Alyssa Caparas of Jonesboro and Zach Marsh of Hot Springs, biology, "A Therapeutic Compound Produced in Plants for Improving Aquaculture Fish Health."
- Robert Darrington of North Little Rock, engineering, "Use of Nanoclays as Alterative Asphalt Modifiers for Building Longer Lasting Pavements."
- Christopher Elms of Batesville, biology, "Engineering 'designer' sugar beets for alternative bioenergy and improved human health."
- Rabiul Islam of Bangladesh, Benjamin Eckerson of Little Rock, Ryan Listenbee of Cabot, and Cameron Nolan of Jonesboro, engineering, "Efficiency Improvement of Vanadium Redox Flow Battery for Renewable Power Plant Applications."
- Tyler Knapp of Hot Springs, biology, "Hairy Root Cultures of Muscadine Grape: A Sustainable Bioproduction and Discovery Platform for Therapeutic Agents."
- Stephanie Saenz of Jonesboro, engineering, "Fabrication of miniaturized thermoelectric device as a renewable energy harvesting source."
- Belina Santos of Trumann, mathematics, "Nonregular Robust Parameter Designs and Applications to Scientific and Engineering Processes."
All of the A-State students are scheduled to present their posters between 11 a.m. and noon.
