Summer Children’s Theatre Announces Upcoming Presentations for 2013 Season
JONESBORO – Youngsters of all ages will enjoy two special productions to be staged during Arkansas State University’s Summer Children’s Theatre season at Fowler Center.
The 20th season of children’s theatre at ASU will open June 19 with “Two Dumb Dogs” by Edith Weiss.
“Ferdo and Floof are two not-very-bright-dogs – well, at least to some people. Constantly getting into trouble with their owner Roger, due mainly to their desire to break his rules, the two dogs decide to run away and seek fame and fortune on their own. Charming, adorable, and enchanting!” says an ASU Theatre representative.
Brooke Thomas will play the role of Ferdo, and Cody Campbell will be Floof. Both are from Jonesboro.
Other cast members are Jordan Phillips (Roger/Legendary Dog Shouter/Rock Prince) of El Dorado; Emily Tucker (Miss Bunbury/Mimi) of Jonesboro; Meshayla Payne (Millie/Queen Malevella) of Hoxie; and Payton Overturf (Owl/Odd) of Cabot. Jasmine Juniel of Camden will be the narrator.
Performance dates are Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, June 20, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This production of “Two Dumb Dogs” is sponsored by The ASU Theatre Guild.
The second production of the 2012 season is “The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse” by Vicky Ireland.
“A country mouse, bored with rural life, is visited by his city cousin and learns he has inherited a large house. While there, the mice run into adventures, particularly when they encounter two tricky city mice. Exciting, irresistible, and feisty!” the spokesman added.
Performance dates are Wednesday, July 24, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 25, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This production of “The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse” is sponsored by The Golden Grotto.
Both productions will be produced by ASU Theatre students under the direction of Molly Simpson, professor of theatre.
Costume and makeup will be under the supervision of Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, and technical direction will be provided by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre and technical director of Fowler Center.
All performances will be held in Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, on the ASU campus. Parking is available at the north side of Fowler Center.
All seating is reserved. Patrons may purchase tickets in advance for $5 each at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center, 217 Olympic Dr., by calling 972-ASU1, or online at tickets.astate.edu. Tickets also may be purchased at the door (if available) on the day of the performance for $7 each. Reservations are highly recommended.
