Summer Children’s Theatre Presents ‘Goloshes of Fortune’
JONESBORO – Children and families will be gathering at Fowler Center Wednesday for the opening production of the 2015 A-State Summer Children’s Theatre season.
The 22nd season of children’s theatre at Arkansas State University will open with “Goloshes of Fortune,” by Elizabeth Wong, from the fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson about “mysterious magical rain boots that will grant the wearer’s greatest wish,” according to the publisher.
“Two meddlesome fairies wonder whether human beings can really know what brings happiness, so they slip the magical goloshes onto the feet of unsuspecting children who think they know what they want. This modern-day version of the original Goloshes of Fortune is infused with dancing, Danish dialogue, and, of course, a pair of yellow Wellingtons.”
Performance dates are Wednesday, June 24, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, June 25, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This production of “Goloshes of Fortune” is sponsored by The A-State Theatre Guild.
“Goloshes of Fortune” will be produced by the A-State Theatre students under the direction of Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Costume and makeup will be under the supervision of Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre.
The performers include Betsy Hegger of Jonesboro as Orange Fairy, Michaela Maxwell of Trumann as Blue Fairy, William Key of Cabot as Hans and Announcer, Deven Parrish of Trumann as Mother and Jenny, Matthew Stewart of White Hall as Father, Justin Almager of El Dorado as Lil Dog, and Mike Reagan of Spokane, Washington, as Big Dog.
All performances will be held at Fowler Center on the A-State campus, 201 Olympic Drive. Parking is available on the north side of Fowler Center.
All seating is reserved. Tickets should be purchased in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center for $5, by calling 972-ASU1, or online at tickets.astate.edu. Tickets may also be purchased at the door (if available) on the day of the performance for $7 each. Reservations are highly recommended.
