Summer Children's Theatre Season Features Two Productions
JONESBORO – Join us at the Fowler Center for the 2016 A-State Summer Children’s Theatre season!
The 23rd season of children’s theatre at A-State will open with "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz" by Steve and Kathy Hotchner, based on the book by L. Frank Baum. "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz" is under the direction of Lisa Bohn, assistant professor of theatre.
"Will Dorothy and Toto ever find their way back to Kansas? Will her friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion ever find a brain, a heart, and the nerve? The answer is definitely 'yes.' Both engaging and entertaining! Come experience rescuing Dorothy and her friends from the Wicked Witch of the West," says a description of the play.
Performance dates are Wednesday and Thursday, June 22-23, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Friday, June 24, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This production of "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz" is sponsored by The Golden Grotto.
The second production of the 2016 season is "Charlotte’s Web" by Joseph Robinette based on the book by E.B. White. "Charlotte’s Web" is under the direction of Tim Bohn, associate professor of theatre.
"A determined Charlotte aims to save Wilbur with the 'miracle' of her web. It’s a victorious campaign which ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte. This is a beautiful play about friendship that promises to enchant."
Performance dates are Wednesday and Thursday, July 27-28, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Friday, July 29, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This production of Charlotte’s Web is sponsored by The A-State Theatre Guild.
A-State theatre students will fulfill various roles in the cast and crew.
For both productions, Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will supervise costume and makeup while Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre, will supervise technical direction.
All performances will be held at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.
All seating is reserved. Tickets should be purchased in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center for $5, by calling 972-ASU1, or online at tickets.astate.edu. Tickets may also be purchased at the door (if available) on the day of the performance for $7 each. Reservations are highly recommended.
