Summer Children's Theatre Season Opens June 21
JONESBORO – The opening production of the 2017 A-State Summer Children’s Theatre season starts Wednesday, June 21.
The 24th season of children’s theatre at A-State will open with "The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi" by Y York, adapted from the story by Rudyard Kipling. The publisher's synopsis says "A comic adaptation of the Kipling classic in which nobody dies! Darzee, the diva, is incensed when Rikki Tikki Tavi washes up in her pristine garden. Darzee and her friend, Chuchu, attempt to run off the pesky mongoose until they see Nag the cobra, run in fear from the new mongoose on the loose."
Performance dates are Wednesday, June 21, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, June 22, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, June 23, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This production of "The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi" is sponsored by The Golden Grotto and the A-State College of Business online MBA program.
"The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi" will be produced by A-State Theatre students under the direction of Tim Bohn, department chair and associate professor of theatre.
The performers include Hayley Scott from North Little Rock as Rikki, Samantha Dunavion from Tuckerman as Darzee, Irene Taylor from Birdtown as Teddy, Hannah Martin from Blytheville as Chuchu, and Jackson Wu from Taipei, Taiwan, as Nag.
Costume and makeup will be under the supervision of Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre and technical direction will be supervised by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Laura Martin from Blytheville will serve as assistant lighting designer, Peyton Miller from Paragould will serve as sound designer, and David Norris from Desha will serve as assistant director and properties master.
All performances will be held at the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr. Parking is available on the north side of the Fowler Center.
All seating is reserved. Tickets should be purchased in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center for $5, by calling 972-ASU1, or online at tickets.AState.edu. Tickets may also be purchased at the door (if available) on the day of the performance for $7 each. Reservations are highly recommended.
The performances are produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Co. of Woodstock, Ill.
