Sun Belt Conference Honors A-State Student-Athletes For Academic Performance
NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) honored a litany of student-athletes for their success in the classroom for the 2012-13 academic year with Arkansas State University student-athletes accounting for 185 of the honorees per a recent announcement by the conference office.
A-State had 95 student-athletes earn Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List recognition while 90 were named to the SBC Academic Honor Roll. Overall, the Sun Belt Conference totaled 1,708 honorees with 813 receiving conference Commissioner’s List accolades and 895 attaining league Academic Honor Roll laurels.
To be eligible for the SBC Commissioner’s List, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.50 or higher grade point average for the previous two semesters or three quarters. Those earning SBC Academic Honor Roll plaudits are awarded for maintaining a grade point average between a 3.0 and 3.49 for the previous two semesters or three quarters.
The A-State women’s track and field/cross country team led all Red Wolves programs with 17 SBC Commissioner’s List honorees and football compiled a second-most 15 recipients. The A-State baseball team along with women’s soccer and men’s track & field/cross country had 12 individuals apiece bestowed with the academic achievement honor.
For the SBC Academic Honor Roll, the Red Wolves football team led the way with 27 individuals claiming such recognition. The A-State baseball team featured a second-most 14 honorees while the women’s track & field/cross country squad had 12 student-athletes receive the honor.
The Sun Belt Conference awarded women’s track and field/cross country with a league-high 119 names to the SBC Commissioner’s List while football had a conference-leading 197 student-athletes named to the SBC Academic Honor Roll.
