Tantalus Guitar Quartet is Next in Lecture-Concert Series, March 1
JONESBORO – Members of the Tantalus Guitar Quartet are bringing their dynamic and acclaimed style to Arkansas State University, where they perform in concert for students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, March 1.
Presented under the auspices of the Lecture-Concert Series, the event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Center (GPS: 2412 Quapaw Way).
Additional sponsors are the Department of Music, the College of Fine Arts, and the A-State Guitar Guild.
"The Tantalus guitar quartet is an exciting young quartet that encourages collaborative projects with audiences around the U.S. Each of the members are excellent performers in their own right," stated Dr. Tim Crist, professor of music and Lecture-Concert Committee chair. "Together they perform some of the most beautiful and colorful works in the genre.
"It will be a pleasure having them in our community to work not only with our A-State guitarists, but also with young artists in the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School. Because of the collaborative element, their concert will be a unique event unlike anything we have seen before. But the guitar playing will still be spectacular," he added.
Quartet members are Kristian Anderson, Adam Foster, Stephen Mattingly and Lynn McGrath. Reviewers have noted the group's "strong, nuanced and textured performances” while performing “clever and well-chosen” arrangements and “diverse and original" programming.
Their highly acclaimed recordings include their most recent CD, "Foolish Fire," which features world-premiere recordings of Edie Hill’s "Above the Green Night," Apostolos Paraskevas’ "Feast," and the CD title piece by Kristian Anderson.
The quartet's schedule includes appearances at important concert series and festivals throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada.
The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus. Many of the Lecture-Concert Series events include additional campus activities as well as community outreach projects, such as the outreach with Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School in Jonesboro.
