Theatre Announces Cast and Crew for 'Zombie Prom'
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Theatre will present "Zombie Prom," a musical comedy by John Dempsey, Hugh Murphy and Dana P. Rowe, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, and Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 27-March 1.
The production, under the direction and choreography of Lisa Bohn, assistant professor of theatre, will begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the Drama Theatre at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr. The music director is Dr. Marika Kyriakos, professor of music.
A meet the company dessert reception will follow the opening night performance on Friday, Feb. 24.
The publisher's synopsis describes the story: "This girl-loves-ghoul rock and roll Off Broadway musical is set in the atomic 1950s at Enrico Fermi High, where the law is laid down by a zany, tyrannical principal. Pretty senior Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy. Family pressure forces her to end the romance, and he flings himself into the cooling tower of the nuclear waste dump. He returns from the dead glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee’s heart. He still wants to graduate, but most of all he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The principal orders him to drop dead while a scandal reporter seizes on him as the freak du jour. History comes to his rescue while a tuneful selection of original songs in the style of the ‘50s hits keeps the action rocking across stage."
The cast includes Alyssa Burleson, a junior theatre major from North Little Rock, as Toffee; Hannah Cummins, a senior theatre minor from Batesville, as Candy; Hayley Scott, a freshman theatre major from North Little Rock, as Ginger; Jaelyn Epps, a senior theatre major from Little Rock, as Coco; Emma Watkins, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Delilah Strict; Zac Passmore, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Jonny; Davis Campbell, a sophomore theatre major from Batesville, as Josh; Jackson Wu, a junior theatre major from Taipei, Taiwan, as Jake; Trenton McKenzie, a freshman music major from Redfield, as Joey; and Davis Polston, a senior theatre major from Searcy, as Eddie Flagrante.
Scenic designer will be Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Light board operator will be Katey Little, a junior theatre major from Paragould. Sound designers and operators will be Peyton Miller, a freshman theatre major from Paragould, and Laura Martin, a post-degree theatre major from Blytheville. Crista McLean, a freshman theatre major from Sherwood, and Kassidy Ratz, a sophomore theatre minor from Beebe, will serve as property designers. Tyler Gillespie, a senior theatre major from Dumas, and Courtney Light, a junior theatre minor from Alicia, will serve as running crew.
Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer. Justin Almager, a senior theatre major from El Dorado, will serve as hair and makeup designer. Hannah Martin, a junior theatre major from Blytheville, Michaela Maxwell, a senior theatre minor from Trumann, and Leah Brown, a senior theatre major from Cherokee Village, will serve as wardrobe and makeup crew.
Kassidy Ratz, a sophomore theatre minor from Beebe, will serve as assistant choreographer. Irene Taylor, a senior theatre major from Springfield, and Amy Faughn, a freshman theatre major from Jonesboro, will serve as assistant stage managers. Stage management duties for the production have been assigned to Samantha Dunavion, a senior theatre major from Tuckerman.
Tickets may be purchased for reserved seating in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1. Tickets are also available online at tickets.astate.edu. Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Ticket prices are $10 ($8 in advance).
