Theatre Announces Cast & Crew for 'The Diary of Anne Frank'

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Theatre will present "The Diary of Anne Frank," a drama by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, and newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman, Friday, Nov. 11, and Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 14-16.

The production, under the direction of Tim Bohn, associate professor and interim chair of theatre, will begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the Drama Theatre at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.  A meet-the-company dessert reception will follow the opening night performance on Nov. 11.

A-State Theatre provided a description of the production, "An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, 'The Diary of Anne Frank' captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence – their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief.  Each day of these two dark years Anne’s voice shines through:  'When I write I shake off all my cares.  But I want to achieve more than that.  I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met.  I want to go on living even after my death!'  This is a new adaptation for a new generation."

The cast includes Michaela Maxwell, a senior theatre minor from Trumann, as Anne Frank; Caleb Silvey, a senior theatre minor from Magnolia, as Otto Frank; Laura Martin, a post-degree theatre major from Blytheville, as Edith Frank; Hayley Scott, a freshman theatre major from North Little Rock, as Margot Frank; Alyssa Burleson, a junior theatre major from North Little Rock, as Miep; Davis Campbell, a sophomore theatre major from Batesville, as Peter; Matthew Steward, a senior theatre major from White Hall, as Mr. Kraler; Hannah Cummins, a senior theatre major from Batesville, as Mrs. Van Daan; Davis Polston, a junior theatre major from Searcy, as Mr. Van Daan; Logan Powell, a sophomore theatre major from Highland, as Mr. Dussel; and Hayden Boles, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, and Tyler Gillespie, a senior theatre major from Dumas, as Nazi soldiers.

Technical director and lighting designer will be Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Light board operator will be Jackson Wu, a sophomore theatre major from Taipei, Taiwan.  Sound board operator will be Peyton Miller, a freshman theatre major from Paragould. Tyler Gillespie, a senior theatre major from Dumas, will serve as props master.

Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer.  Zac Passmore, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro will serve as assistant costume designer.  Jaelyn Epps, a senior theatre major from Little Rock, Justin Almager, a senior theatre major from El Dorado, and Katey Little, a junior theatre major from Paragould, will serve as wardrobe crew.

Deven Parrish, a junior theatre major from Trumann, and Samantha Dunavion, a senior theatre major from Tuckerman, will serve as assistant stage managers. Stage management duties for the production have been assigned to Irene Taylor, a senior theatre major from Springfield, Ark.

Tickets may be purchased for reserved seating in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1.  Tickets are also available online at tickets.AState.edu.  Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance.  Ticket prices are $10 ($8 in advance).

Advanced reservations are highly recommended.
