Theatre to Present ‘Little Women’ in Fowler Center Musical Production
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University's Department of Theatre will continue the 2022-23 season with "Little Women," a musical based on Louisa May Alcott's wildly popular semi-autobiographical novel, “Little Women.” This show follows the lives of the four March sisters and their coming-of-age journey through life, love and loss during the turmoil of the Civil War.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, and at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19. Performances will be in the Drama Theater in the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.
The show is directed by Brianna Larson, assistant professor of theatre and dance, with theater major Gavin Wilson of Berryville serving as assistant director. Claire Abernathy, associate professor of theatre, serves as the costume designer. Jeff McLaughlin, associate professor of theatre, serves as the scenic designer. Caisa Sanburg, assistant professor of theatre, is the lighting designer. Dr. Kristen Sullivan is the music director, and theater major Raven Raleigh is the sound designer. DayDay Robinson, assistant professor of theatre, is the dialect coach and intimacy director.
The cast consists of theatre majors Haley Reed of Bay, Emma Bryant of Siloam Springs, Fernanda Posadas of Sherwood, Kori Denison of Southside, Reid Dunivan of Bentonville, Zane Brewer of Conway, Michael Joseph of Sikeston, Mo., Allie Jones of Jonesboro, Gavin Wilson of Berryville, and vocal performance major Jennifer Parr of Little Rock.
The orchestra features Alaina Graiser, instructor, piano; Ally Flynn of Cabot, percussion; Alec Black of Bonne Terre, Mo., oboe, flute, and English horn; Rike Robinson of Jonesboro, trombone; and Dr. Kristen Sullivan, instructor, keyboard.
The crew is composed of a variety of theatre students. Kaito Ito of Tokyo, Japan, serves as the stage manager. Assistant stage managers are Judith Bossi of Batesville and Marie Kazyak of Manila. The properties manager is Alec Lazarini of Memphis. Raven Raleigh serves as the sound board operator. The light board operator is Alex Jones of Russellville. Kylah Hood of Jonesboro and Emily Provence of Searcy are the spotlight operators.
The backstage crew consists of Nikolas Stark of Searcy, Alli Peavy of Memphis, and Brianna Elms. The wardrobe crew consists of Skyla Conger of Haskell, Madi Goad of Jonesboro, Selena Hinds of Jonesboro, and Laina Evans of Jonesboro. Justin Harris of St. Louis, is the documentarian. Lindsey Zimmer of Jonesboro is the house manager. Trey Moore of Batesville and Robyne Richards of Beebe run the captions.
Dr. Vicent Moreno's Translation and Interpretation class is translating the script from English to Spanish for broadcast live via a captioning service using patrons’ phones. Moreno is associate professor of Spanish. Students working on the translations include Anna Bishop, Tim Chandler, Thomas Cornwell, Emma Fowler, Alexandra Gibson, Bret Hall, Makenzie Horton, Shelby McCormick, Levi McGrew, Sophia Rodrigues, Nao Mitsuguchi, Veronica Rivetti, Rebecca Roberts, Kayla Treasitti and Ashley Watson.
Tickets for "Little Women" can be purchased 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the A-State Box Office in First National Bank Arena or by calling (870) 972-ASU1. Tickets can also be purchased online at AState.edu/tickets.
Prices are $10 for seniors and A-State staff/faculty, and $15 for the general public. A-State student tickets are free at the box office with a student ID. Limited seating is available, so it is recommended that patrons reserve their tickets ahead of time.
