Trombone Choir Prepares to Perform at International Festival

JONESBORO – As part of their preparation toward performing at the International Trombone Festival this summer, students in the Arkansas State University Trombone Choir will present their Spring Concert Monday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center.

The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Neale Bartee. This concert is free and open to the public.

The program includes: “The Calling” by David W. Moore, “On A Hymn Tune” by Philip Bliss, “Suite for Four Trombones” by Flor Peeters, “Well All Right!” by Peter Madsen, “Secret Love” by Sammy Fain, “Can You Read My Mind?” by John Williams, and “MacArthur Park” by Jimmy Webb.

The Trombone Choir has been invited to perform at the 2013 International Trombone Festival in Columbus, Ga., June 27-28. The ensemble will play a 15-minute set to open an artist session and a 30-minute set at the exhibition center.

In order to make this trip, the Trombone Choir needs assistance in raising funds. Donations may be made to the ASU Foundation, P.O. Box 1990, State University, AR 72467 or sent to Neale Bartee in the Music Department, P.O. Box 779, with a memo line notation of “ASU Trombone Choir.”

“This will be a valuable educational experience for the students and important international recognition for the Music Department,” Bartee commented.

Ensemble personnel include: Nathan Anderson of Sherwood, Andy Hakenewerth of Valley View, Daniel Harrelson of Warren, Dalton Henson and Alex Ditto of Hoxie, Devondre Hince of Jacksonville, Cody Hutchison and Garrett Tyler of Jonesboro, Roy Massey of Salem, Nikki Mullen of Gravel Ridge, Kyle O’Brien of Batesville, Nathan Peoples and Adam Waddell of Nettleton, Seth Wortham of Highland, Tim Moore of Dexter, Mo., and Matt Bounds of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
