Tuba and Trombone Ensembles to Present Fall Recital

JONESBORO – The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present the tuba and trombone ensembles in their fall concert on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.

"The trombone choir and tuba ensemble concert is an opportunity for these talented low brass students to step out from the back row of our ensembles and take center stage,” says Dr. Bruce Faske, instructor in music.  "These instruments primarily serve in a supporting role, and the trombone choir and tuba ensembles give them the opportunity to play parts usually reserved for woodwind and high brass musicians."

The tuba ensemble is being directed by Dr. Ed Owen.  They will perform “Ave Maria” by Tomas Luis de Vittoria, “Consortium” by John Cheetham, “Adagio” by John Stevens, and “Dance No. 1” by Kenyon Wilson.

The trombone ensemble, under the direction of Faske, will perform the following pieces: “Canzona for 8 Trombones” by Walter Hartley, “Felicity” by Raymond Premru, “Quartette fur Posaunen” arranged by Robert Miller, “Pie Jesu” from Gabriel Fauré’s "Requiem," “Colonel Bogey March” by Kenneth Alford and arranged by Chris Waage, and “O Isis und Osiris” from Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte," which will feature Owen on the tuba.

“Concert attendees will be surprised to hear the wide range of tonal colors, textures, and dynamics possible with these ensembles, and we look forward to showcasing their numerous talents on stage," Faske added.
