Undefeated Rugby TeamхЪLooks Forward to Final Fall Games
JONESBORO — Arkansas State University’s undefeated rugby team has three opponents remaining on the 2016 fall schedule, but the Red Wolves are thinking the old adage, “playing one game at a time.”
That next game is against Davenport and A-State travels to Grand Rapids, Mich., Saturday, Oct. 29, to take on the Panthers at 9 a.m. CT, at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
Davenport stands 3-1 on the season, while the fourth-ranked Red Wolves are 4-0. The team is coming off of a mammoth 70-3 win over the Little Rock Men’s Club last weekend in Little Rock.
“We tried some new combinations in the backs which worked out well,” stated Shaun Potgieter, A-State head coach. “We planned to move the ball around the field, which was executed by all the players. They did a great job converting their line breaks into tries. The back three scored 10 tries.”
In addition to the play of his squad, another plus going into the weekend’s game is the lack of injuries.
“It was good to get away from Little Rock with no injuries. We are looking forward to the next three weeks of competitive rugby.”
Following the match with Davenport, A-State will go back on the road (Saturday) Nov. 5 to Norman, Okla., to face Oklahoma at 12 p.m. CT, and close out the fall season Saturday, Nov. 12, at home against Life University. That game gets underway at 12 p.m. CT at Curt Huckaby Field, 501 Red Wolf Trail.
