University Community Mourns Passing of Carol O’Connor, Emeritus Faculty Member
JONESBORO – The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Dr. Carol A. O’Connor, who died earlier this month in Tulsa.
In 2002, she joined A-State’s faculty as professor of history. She also served as associate dean and then dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences before retiring and being named to emeritus status in 2012.
O’Connor was a notable historian of urban America and the North American West. Among her many achievements, she and her husband and colleague, Clyde A. Milner II, and Martha A. Sandweiss, who recently retired from Princeton, co-edited the Oxford History of the American West (1994) and wrote the chapter “A Region of Cities.”
The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be lighted scarlet Tuesday, Nov. 22, in memorial tribute to O’Connor’s service and contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University. A tribute is on the Western History Association website.
