University Community Mourns Passing of Dr. J.B. Sheofee
JONESBORO – The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former associates of emeritus faculty member Dr. J.B. Sheofee of Kennett, Mo., who died Friday.
Sheofee earned bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Central Arkansas, and his doctorate at the University of Mississippi.
After teaching mathematics at high schools in Tuckerman and Blytheville, he joined Arkansas State University's faculty in 1964 and and taught for 23 years. At retirement in 1987, Sheofee was named to emeritus status as assistant professor of mathematics. He also served in the ministry for churches in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.
Survivors include two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, in Blytheville. The complete obituary is online.
The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be lighted scarlet Wednesday evening in memorial tribute to Sheofee and his contributions to higher education and Arkansas State.
