University Mourns Passing of Dr. Charles Carr, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy

JONESBORO -- Dr. Charles Carr, Arkansas State University emeritus professor of philosophy, died at his home Thursday night, Dec. 5, following a brief illness.

Prior to his retirement following the Spring 2012 semester, Carr was chair of the Department of English and Philosophy in the Arkansas State College of Humanities and Social Sciences from 1979 to 2009.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University, as well as a Master of Arts degree and a Ph.D., both from the University of Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Rebecca Carr, A-State instructor of accounting in the College of Business, a brother and three sisters. He was the author of the 2011 memoir, “Two One Pony: An American Soldier’s Year in Vietnam, 1969,” a narrative of a reluctant mechanized infantryman in the Mekong Delta with 9th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 531 W. College Ave. in Jonesboro, with a committal service immediately following. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the church.
