JONESBORO – Two new compositions will be premiered when the Department of Music at Arkansas State University presents the University Singers in their fall concert on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall. The groups are directed by adjunct professor Mrs. Cherie Robison Collins. This concert is free and open to the public.
The University Women’s Choir will provide a program including “Cantate Domino” by Rupert Lang, “Think on Me” arranged by James Mulholland, “In Paradisum” by Gabriel Fauré, and “The Parting Glass” as sung by the Wailin Jenny’s. They will also be premiering two new pieces, “Sing to the Lord” by A-State faculty Brian Henkelmann, and “Woe to the Oppressors” by A-State alumnus James Kane Bradley.
The University Men’s Choir will perform “Stars I Shall Find” by David Dickau, “Ubi Caritas” by Ola Gjeilo, “Somebody’s Calling My Name” arranged by Whalum, “God Only Knows” arranged by Clay Hine, and “Song for Peace” by Allister MacGillivray.
“The University Men and Women’s Singers have prepared a very entertaining program varying from Faure to the Beach Boys,” states Collins. “The women will be performing with guest artist Pat Qualls on harp. They will also be performing an original composition by A-State music faculty, Brian Henkelmann. He will be accompanying this composition along with A-State faculty Heather Coleman on flute. Another original composition will be performed by the women. A-State master’s graduate Kane Bradley has composed a riveting piece for women. Both choirs will also be joined by guest collaborative pianist, Fonda Lofton.”
