VeoRide Bike Share Fleet Arrives at A-State

JONESBORO – The customized fleet of VeoRide bike share arrived for Homecoming week at Arkansas State University.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to download the VeoRide app for iOS or Android devices to access the on-campus bicycles.
With approximately 200 total bicycles available, VeoRide provides an option for members of the A-State community to move around campus on the university’s Pedestrian and Cyclist (PAC) Path system.
In distinctive A-State Scarlet and Black, the VeoRide dockless bike share works the same as previous systems, with one notable difference. The VeoRide bikes must be parked on or near the A-State campus.
“We know bike share was very popular last year with our students, faculty and staff, and these new VeoRides in Scarlet and Black add a lot of school spirit to our fleet,” Chancellor Kelly Damphousse said. “I know I’m looking forward to using them to get around to meetings.”
Pricing for VeoRide for those with AState.edu email addresses is 50 cents per 15-minute ride. Subscription plans are also available with university pricing -- $6.99 for a full day, $13.00 for a month and $48.99 for a year.
“We are excited about the chance to have new options and new bicycles,” Student Government Association President Jon Mark Horton said. “The VeoRide app also opens up new ways to use the bikes.”
Horton said the SGA is partnering with others on campus to encourage a group ride to downtown Jonesboro on Saturday, Nov. 10, to participate in the Veterans Day Parade.
Arkansas State joined the VeoRide system in late August with a starter fleet of approximately 30 bicycles. VeoRide is focused on universities and university towns such as the University of Kansas, Pittsburg State University, University of Illinois, Texas State University, University of Arkansas and Northern Illinois University.
“We are looking forward to increasing bicycle ridership on campus and enhancing our campus life through events with our new bike share partners,” Associate Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications Bill Smith said. “There are additional products that we look forward to hosting at A-State with VeoRide in the future such as cargo bikes for departmental usage, electric-assist bicycles, fat-tire bicycles for trails, and handcycles for those with mobility difficulties.”
The VeoRide team will also work to promote usage from the commuter and athletic parking lots.
“Rather than circling the high-traffic parking lots near the campus core and hoping for someone to leave, a commuter student could get to any building faster by parking in a perimeter lot such as First National Bank Arena and hopping on a VeoRide and riding right to their classes,” Director of Parking Services Dave McKinney said.
