Violinist Hal Grossman to Perform in Lecture-Concert Series
JONESBORO – Violinist Hal Grossman will present a program Sunday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall at Arkansas State University.
His performance is part of the Lecture-Concert Series for 2017-18, and is supported in part by the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, the Department of Music, the A-State String Society and the A-State Music Outreach Program.
Grossman, an associate professor of violin at the University of Oklahoma, also serves on the violin faculty at the Aria International Summer Academy.
“I am beyond thrilled that Professor Grossman is visiting us this week. His recital will be a great opportunity for students and community members," stated Dr. Chi Young Song, assistant professor of violin and coordinator of strings. "The Grossman Method, also known as No Pain All Gain, is regarded as one of the most successful methods and his violin master class will be highly beneficial to all music students as well as music teachers in the area.”
Grossman has been hailed by critics for his “tremendous virtuosic technique” and “outstanding artistic sense.” As concerto soloist, he has appeared with American, European and Canadian orchestras including the Rochester Philharmonic, the North Carolina Symphony and Polish Sinfonietta.
Grand Award Winner of the Lima Young Artist Competition and Silver Medalist of the International Stulberg Competition, Grossman also received first prize awards at the prestigious International Cleveland Quartet Competition and the National Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. His New York debut at Carnegie Hall received exceptional reviews.
The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus, according to Dr. Tim Crist, chair of the Lecture-Concert Committee.
